About This Blog

Welcome to my personal blog — the corner of the internet where I share my own views, opinions, occasional rants, and the kind of IT horror stories you can’t make up.

If you came here expecting corporate-friendly advice, polished PR fluff, or jargon-stuffed nonsense about "digital ecosystems," I’ve got bad news. This blog is where I tell the truth — the good, the bad, and the "how are we still getting this wrong in 2025?"

Who’s Behind It?

I’m an IT professional with over 40 years of experience — which means I’ve worked with everything from cassette tape backups to cloud-first strategies, and I’ve had a front-row seat to some truly spectacular tech meltdowns.

I’ve spent my career working with businesses of all shapes and sizes — from small firms where the "IT strategy" is hoping nothing breaks, to larger companies where change control takes longer than a kitchen extension. Along the way, I’ve seen the best and worst of what this industry has to offer, and this blog is my way of sharing what I’ve learned (and venting when necessary).

What to Expect

  • Practical advice — because good security doesn’t have to be expensive, but stupidity always is.

  • Cyber security, explained in English — not vendor-speak.

  • Honest opinions — if something’s brilliant, I’ll say so. If it’s a steaming pile of nonsense, I’ll say that too.

  • Real IT war stories — because learning from other people’s mistakes is cheaper than making your own.

  • Blunt truths — because sugarcoating only helps with dental hygienists.

  • Direct Language - Yes on occasion the occasional F Bomb or 2.

What You Won’t Find

  • Corporate speak: No "leveraging agile frameworks to maximise cross-platform synergies."

  • Official advice: Nothing here is official advice from anyone except me.

  • Hidden agendas: If I mention a product or service, it’s because I genuinely think it’s worth talking about — not because I’m being paid to plug it. If anyone ever pays me, I’ll be loud about it.

Want to Support This Chaos?

Running this blog takes time, caffeine, and a worrying amount of sarcasm — none of which are free.

If you’re enjoying the content (or you just want to prove you’ve got excellent taste), you can support the effort by grabbing some high-quality merch.

We’re talking T-shirts, mugs, and maybe even a hoodie — all lovingly designed to help you look fantastic while ignoring basic security advice.

Will the merch make your business more secure?
No. But you’ll look brilliant while getting hacked, and that’s got to count for something.

Important Disclaimer (Read This Bit)

This blog is personal. Everything I write here represents my own views, opinions, and sense of humour. Nothing I say reflects the views, policies, or positions of my employer, any clients, suppliers, partners, or anyone else I’ve ever worked with.

If you mistake this for official advice from my employer or anyone else, that’s entirely your problem.

If you follow something I’ve written and your network catches fire, your backups disappear into the void, or you accidentally DDoS yourself, that’s also your problem. Always get professional, tailored advice before making major decisions about your IT, cyber security, or business.

In short:

  • My blog.

  • My views.

  • My responsibility.

  • My mess to clean up (unless you copy me, then it’s yours).
